hey you!

ashley manley

Ahh, the about page....so awkward, amirite? First person? Third person? Does anyone even read this?!

I digress.

I'm Ashley.  Former professional family documentary photographer turned amateur hobbyist extraordinaire living in Central Illinois.  I love photography and refer to it as a relationship often, which really creeps my husband out, but not as much as when I refer to the UPS man as my boyfriend (#amazonprime).  I have 2 wild and wonderful kids, 1 wild and wonderful husband that travels a lot for work so I turn to photography, writing, and an assortment of cooking and art projects to keep myself in-check.  I love working with other photographers but I'm not into telling them what's good or not or setting stupid amounts of rules or figuring out the latest algorithms.  I'm not into making photos that people think are good or not good.  I'm into making things that I love, having good conversations with people that I love, and over serving myself wine from a box....that I love.

Life is too short for shallow relationships and not filling up your creative soul the way you want, which at the present time for me, means reading obsessive amounts of poetry and making softly-focused images.

Seriously, who have I turned into?

I go down to the shore

{Mary Oliver}

I go down to the shore in the morning

and depending on the hour the waves

are rolling in or moving out,

and I say, oh, I am miserable,

what shall-

what shall I do? And the sea says

in its lovely voice:

Excuse me, I have work to do.

here are the other Manleys that I know you've been dying to get to know.

Oak (like the tree)

The three-nado that both inspires me and makes me drink too much wine.  The one that makes me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time.  Above all, the one that made me mom and photographer.

Vale {rhymes with hail}

The one-year-old smiling piece of perfection that makes everyone smile unless she's pooping in the tub, and even that's pretty damn funny.

Kevin {like Costner}

The wonderful husband that never understands what I'm doing but supports me anyway.  That ladies, is how you know you have a keeper.
